How we write our guides
Our guides answer the questions people ask when they eat plant-based: which nutrients to watch, which supplements matter, and how to plan, shop and cook for a week. This page explains how they're made, so you can judge them for yourself.
Who writes them
Guides are written by the Vegochef team, the people who build the Vegochef app, at Vegochef OÜ in Tallinn, Estonia.
Where our facts come from
We base nutrition facts on official and scientific sources, and list them at the end of every guide:
- US National Academies of Medicine: daily reference values and upper limits for vitamins and minerals
- NIH Office of Dietary Supplements: fact sheets on individual nutrients
- USDA FoodData Central: nutrient values for individual foods
- US FDA and USDA food safety guidance: for example on fish and on storing food
- The Vegan Society and peer-reviewed research where official sources don't cover a question
We don't quote health claims from supplement makers or unsourced websites.
How we keep them up to date
Every guide shows the date it was last checked. We review each guide at least once a year, and sooner when official recommendations change.
Not medical advice
Our guides are general information for healthy adults. They're not medical advice and don't replace your doctor or a registered dietitian. Talk to them before changing your diet or supplements, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, have a health condition or take medication.
