Questions people ask
What nutrients does Vegochef track?
Vegochef tracks both macronutrients and micronutrients to give you a complete picture of your nutrition.
Vitamins: A, C, D, E, K, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12
Minerals: Calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium, zinc
Lipids: Monounsaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, omega-3, omega-6, saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol
In addition, Vegochef tracks energy, protein, carbohydrates, and total fats so you can monitor both macros and micronutrients in one place.
Does Vegochef show which foods are rich in a nutrient?
Yes. Every vitamin, mineral and lipid has its own page with a list of superfoods: foods that are naturally rich in that nutrient, so you know what to add to your plate when you're running low.
To find it, open your daily nutrition overview, choose Vitamins, Minerals or Lipids, and tap any nutrient. You'll see what it does in your body, how much you've had today, your target, and the superfoods for it, per serving or per 100 g.
Is Vegochef only for vegans?
No. Vegochef is made for anyone who eats plant-based, all or most of the time:
- Vegans
- Vegetarians
- Pescatarians
- Anyone new to plant-based eating
There's no meat in Vegochef. We've removed it from the food list, so every recipe and every nutrient total is built from plant-based foods, plus dairy, eggs and fish if you eat them. That keeps the app focused on the nutrients that matter most when you eat plant-based, but it also means Vegochef isn't the right app if you eat meat.
If you want to understand the nutrients in your meals and plan balanced plant-based dishes, Vegochef can help.
Why is there no meat in Vegochef?
Because Vegochef is built for plant-based eating, and we believe that eating more plants is better for your health, for animals and for the planet.
Leaving meat out keeps everything in the app focused: recipes you can actually use, and nutrient advice that fits the way you eat, like getting enough B12, iron and omega-3 without meat. You'll never have to scroll past steaks to find your lentils.
Where does the nutrition data come from?
Nutrition data in Vegochef comes from a research-grade food composition database used by universities and clinical studies, not from user-submitted entries.
It covers thousands of foods and is carefully curated, providing reliable and well-researched nutrition data.
Can I add my own recipes?
Yes. You can easily create and save your own recipes.
Simply add the ingredients and their amounts, and Vegochef will automatically calculate the complete nutrition profile for the recipe, including vitamins, minerals, lipids, and macros.
Can I track custom supplements?
Yes. Add any supplement you take, including vitamins, minerals, medicine or other products, with the exact nutrient amounts from its label.
Once you mark a supplement as taken, the app automatically updates your daily nutrition totals, so you see how your supplements and your food add up together.
Supplements you take every day come back on your Home screen, ready to tick off.
Can Vegochef remind me to take my vitamin D?
Yes. Add vitamin D, or any other supplement, to Snacks & supplements on your Home screen. Then go to Profile → Notifications, tick the supplements you want a reminder for and choose a time for each one.
You can also get reminders for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a water reminder every one, two or three hours during the hours you choose.
Is Vegochef free?
Vegochef is free to download and starts with a 7-day free trial of Premium, so you can try everything first. After that, it's a monthly or annual subscription. You'll see the prices in the app, and you can cancel any time in your App Store or Google Play settings.
We can't make it free because good nutrition data isn't free. We license a research-grade food database instead of relying on user-entered guesses, and we keep adding new recipes to the app. Vegochef is a small independent company: there are no ads in the app and we never sell your data, so your subscription is what keeps it running and improving.
Are the targets right for everyone?
They're a good starting point for most healthy adults. Vitamin and mineral targets follow the US National Academies of Medicine reference values for your age and sex. Calorie and macro targets are calculated with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, from your body, activity and goal.
Your needs may be different if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a health condition or take medication. Talk to your doctor or a dietitian before changing your diet or supplements, and change any target in the app to match their advice.
