Tips for the best mango pineapple smoothie bowl

  • Use frozen fruit, not fresh: that's what makes a smoothie bowl thick enough to eat with a spoon.
  • Add liquid a little at a time. Too much and it turns into a drink.
  • Use a tamper or stop and scrape down the blender to keep it moving.
  • Chill the bowl first so the smoothie doesn't melt as fast.

Variations

  • More protein: blend in soy yogurt, silken tofu or a scoop of plant protein.
  • Green: add a handful of spinach; you won't taste it.
  • Berry: swap the mango for frozen mixed berries.
  • Crunch: top with granola, toasted coconut or nuts.

Storing

Best eaten straight away. You can freeze prepped fruit in bags so each bowl is a 2-minute job.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make a smoothie bowl thick?

Use frozen fruit, very little liquid and a frozen banana if you have one. Blend slowly, scraping down the sides.

What's the difference between a smoothie and a smoothie bowl?

A smoothie bowl is thicker, so you eat it with a spoon and can add toppings.

Can I make a smoothie bowl without banana?

Yes. Use extra frozen mango or a few spoons of thick yogurt for creaminess.

Is a smoothie bowl a good breakfast?

Yes, especially with protein added, such as soy yogurt, seeds or nut butter, to keep you full for longer.
